For Kayla’s birthday, I told her that my present to her was going to be her birthday cake. I knew it had to be better than your average cake, so I settled on a recipe for a rainbow cake (found here). Following all the directions, everything went great, until it came time for the frosting. Mine just wouldn’t set right. In the end, I just made a simple buttercream, which ended up being perfect. I kept the frosting between the layers small, because the cake was already pretty sweet. Instead of icing on words, I made a stencil and just put 18 with sugar sprinkles, red, for Kayla’s favorite color. Kayla, of course, knew what the cake was going to be on the inside, as I had to make sure that it was to her liking, but no one else did, and all loved the colors when it was cut. The cake was incredibly sweet, but not a bad sweet, more of a sugar coma, I can’t eat more than one piece, kind of sweet. I have to say, I’m pretty proud of it.
This is still the greatest birthday present I have ever received. Julia is kind of a beautiful person.
You saying that means so much to me.
